WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD CO-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Cassie Hunt, Illinois
JR, Roachdale, Ind./North Putman
Hunt has been named Co-Athlete of the Week after capturing first place in the 5,000-meter race last weekend at the prestigious Drake Relays. The junior recorded a career-best and NCAA regional qualifying time as she shattered the mark by 34.88 seconds, crossing the finish line in 16:17.12. The weekly laurel marks the first in Hunt's career and she joins teammate Yvonne Mensah (April 18) as the second Illini to be honored this season.

Jennifer Leatherman, Penn State
SR, Yellville, Ark./Rolla

Leatherman shares her second weekly honor this season, tallying her fourth accolade of the 2006 outdoor campaign.  At the Penn Relays, considered to be one of the most esteemed track and field meets along with the Drake Relays, the senior once again tallied three NCAA regional qualifying marks in as many field events. The All-American finished first in the hammer throw championships division with a toss of 213'07" (65.12 meters). She finished sixth in the discus championships, destroying the regional qualifying standard by 3.45 meters, with a distance 166'06" (50.75 meters). Leatherman wrapped her weekend performance with a seventh-place finish in the shot put championships, tossing it 47'09" (14.57 meters). The Yellville, Ark., native, who was also named Athlete of the Week twice this year during the indoor season, has now garnered weekly accolades eight times throughout her career (indoor and outdoor combined).
