Bush and Evans Collect Track and Field Athlete of the Week Accolades

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Nicole Bush, Michigan State Bush posted the second fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in the world this past weekend at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. The senior crossed the finish line at 9:39.38 to place first among all collegiate competitors as her time tops the NCAA rankings and is the fifth-fastest steeplechase result ever by a collegiate runner. Bush broke her own school record which she set at the 2008 U.S.A. Olympic Trials. The Wyoming, Mich., native is the only Big Ten student-athlete to rank in the top four in three different events (3,000m. steeplechase, 5,000m. and 1,500m.) this season. Aja Evans, Illinois Evans launched her best shot put of the season this past weekend at the Illinois Invitational with a first-place toss of 54-9.25 (16.69m.). Her distance ranks first in the Big Ten and sixth in the nation among collegiate competition. The Chicago native has captured four shot put titles this season along with three career weekly conference honors. Evans also helped post the Big Ten’s fastest 4X100-meter relay time as member of the winning Illini quartet with a time of 45.68. Last Illinois Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Aja Evans (4/22/09)
