Penn State and Indiana Win Final Track & Field Weekly Honors

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Franek wins the second Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honor of her career and first of the 2010 season. The senior recorded the nation’s best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn State Outdoor Open this weekend, setting the track’s top time in the process. She crossed the line in 9:54.70, an effort that is best in the NCAA Eastern standings by nearly 10 seconds and the fastest conference time by almost 11 seconds. Last Penn State Track Athlete of the Week: Shavon Greaves (April 7, 2010) Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Sherrill earns her first career Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor after scoring two first-place finishes and a school record over the weekend at the Billy Hayes Invitational. The junior topped the field in the hammer throw with a toss of 58.46 meters (191-9) to set the Indiana record in the event. She also finished first in the discus with an effort of 46.50 meters (152-7). Her day ended with a second-place effort, first among collegians, in the shot put with a throw of 15.38 meters (50-5.5).
