Minnesota Men, Women Lead After Day 1 At Big Ten Championships

With the hopes of winning its second straight conference championship, Minnesota got off to a strong start on the first day of the 2010 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. The Gophers won two events on Friday, including Micah Hegerle in the hammer throw, and Ben Peterson in the pole vault, totaling 34 points and building a 15-point lead on second-place Wisconsin. The Minnesota women also got off to a strong start, winning both contested events, DeAnne Hahn in the hammer throw and Megan Duwell in the 10,000, to finish Day 1 with 33 points. Ohio State is second with 15 and Indiana is third with 10. The second day of competition at the 2010 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET on Saturday.
