Drouin Wins High Jump Title on Day 3 at NCAA Championships

The Big Ten saw one student-athlete claim a national championship, while six others earned All-America honors on the third night of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the University of Oregon’s Hayward Track on Friday night. Indiana’s Derek Drouin won his first outdoor NCAA high jump championship on Friday, clearing 2.26 meters to become the first Big Ten champion in the event since 1970. Other Hoosiers making impacts on Friday include Molly Beckwith, who finished second in the 800-meter run and Faith Sherrill, who was sixth in the shot put. Penn State’s Fawn Dorr recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, while Michigan State’s Emily MacLeod earned sixth place in the 5,000-meter final. In the field, Penn State’s Ryan Fritz finished fourth in the high jump, while Wisconsin’s Jenny Soceka was eighth in the pole vault. The final day of the 2010 NCAA Track and Field Championships will be Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. PT.
