Samedy Named ESPNW's National Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - ESPNW has announced that University of Minnesota freshman opposite hitter Stephanie Samedy (Clermont, Fla.) was named their National Player of the Week after her stellar performance last weekend in Austin, Texas. 

For the second-straight week, Samedy was named the tournament MVP, this time coming during the University of Texas American Campus Classic, Sept. 7-8. Samedy, a six-rotation player, led her team with 43 kills, averaged 4.33 kills per set and hit .313 over the course of the three matches. She also tallied 10 blocks and 22 digs. Samedy led the Gophers in kills for all three matches, including a career-best 22 in the win over No. 5 Texas. In the Longhorn win alone, Samedy also had a career-best 52 attempts, hit .308, added nine digs and two blocks.

It's the first national honor for Samedy in just three weeks of her collegiate career. She also received Big Ten Co-Player and Co-Freshman of the Week honors in her collegiate debut three weeks ago.
