Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio State Win Big Ten Weekly Honors
Sept. 13, 2010 Co-Players of the Week: Benson wins her third Big Ten Player of the Week honor after the senior middle blocker won tournament Most Valuable Player honors for the third weekend in a row. She led the Hoosiers to four wins on the strength of her .629 hitting percentage and averages of 4.5 kills, 1.6 digs and 1.0 blocks per set. Benson’s standout performance of the weekend was against Niagara, where she finished with 17 kills and an .889 hitting percentage. She also posted double-digit kill efforts against Robert Morris (11) and Colgate (14). Last Indiana Player of the Week: Ashley Benson (Nov. 3, 2008) Ashley Wittman, Minnesota Wittman wins her first Big Ten Player of the Week distinction after earning All-Tournament honors and aiding in Minnesota’s three victories at the Duke Invitational. The freshman recorded a pair of double-doubles on the weekend and averaged 4.1 kills on .355 hitting, 4.0 digs and 0.9 blocks per set. On Saturday morning against Delaware, she finished with 20 kills to go along with 18 digs in a four-set win. She also recorded 12 kills, 11 digs and two blocks in the afternoon against Duke. Last Minnesota Player of the Week: Tabitha Love (Aug. 30, 2010) Defensive Player of the Week: Schwarzwalder claims the first weekly honor of her career after helping Ohio State to a perfect 4-0 weekend and earning All-Tournament team honors at the Madison Bingman Memorial Tournament. The senior averaged 2.1 blocks per set and was part of the Buckeye defense that held opponents to an .085 hitting percentage on the weekend. She recorded the first double-double of her career, finishing with 10 kills and 10 blocks vs. Sacred Heart. Schwarzwalder currently ranks second in the Big Ten with 1.68 blocks per set.
