Minnesota sophomore Lauren Gibbemeyer was named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Tuesday. The national honor is the first for Gibbemeyer, the sixth for the Golden Gophers and the second for the Big Ten this season. This marks the first time in the history of the award that two of the first three honorees in a season have been Big Ten players and the first time since 1997 that two of the first three award winners have come from the same conference.
