Michigan Sweeps Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
Sept. 19, 2005
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Bruzdzinski earns her first career Big Ten Player of the Week award after leading Michigan in kills for three-straight matches this past weekend. In helping the Wolverines to their fourth, fifth and sixth straight wins, Bruzdzinski recorded the second-most single-match kills (33) in program history and tied for the third-most single-match attempts (72) in U-M history. The sophomore's 33 kills against Georgia were the most for a Wolverine since 1999 and one shy of tying for the program record. Last week, she posted career highs in kills, attempts and blocks. Bruzdzinski has now hit double digits for kills in all but two matches this season. Last MICH POW: Jennifer Gandolph (11/4/02) DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Selsky tied for the third-most single-match digs in program history against Georgia (33) last week, while anchoring Michigan's defense to three wins. The U-M sophomore led the Wolverines in digs each match and helped limit opponents to .071 (EMU) and .019 (Georgia Tech) hitting percentages, while also setting the table for Michigan's precise attacks. On the week, she averaged 5.8 digs per game, as she totaled 69 over 12 games. Selsky's 33 digs were a career high, bettering her previous best of 30. Last MICH POW: Jennifer Gandolph (11/4/02) With the inception of the Defensive Player of the Week honor this season, this marks the first occasion two Michigan student-athletes have been honored in the same week. Prior to this year, Michigan recorded back-to-back Player of the Week honorees just one time in Big Ten history. Erin Moore (Oct. 28) and Jennifer Gandolph (Nov. 4) were honored in a two-week span in 2002.
