Minnesota, Northwestern and Penn State Take Home Weekly Volleyball Awards

Northwestern's Caleigh Ryan was tabbed Freshman of the Week for the second time this year.

Katie Slay, Penn State
MH – Sr. – Raleigh, N.C. – Wakefield

  • Helped No. 4 Penn State post wins over No. 11 Minnesota (3-2) and No. 19 Wisconsin (3-0)
  • Tallied 18 total blocks, averaging 2.3 blocks per set
  • Notched her first career double-double against the Gophers (16 kills, 10 blocks), while posting a .444 hitting percentage
  • Became just the eighth Nittany Lion to record 500 career blocks (502)
  • Earned her eighth career Big Ten weekly award and first Player of the Week accolade
  • Last Penn State Player of the Week: Ariel Scott (Nov. 5, 2012)

Defensive Player of the Week
Tori Dixon, Minnesota
MB – Sr. – Burnsville, Minn. – Burnsville  

  • Guided No. 11 Minnesota to a road win over No. 14 Ohio State (3-0)
  • Averaged 3.6 kills, 2.0 blocks and 1.4 digs per set  
  • Led the Gophers in blocks (16) and digs (11)
  • Notched a team-high 12 kills against the Buckeyes
  • Reeled in her seventh career Big Ten weekly award and sixth Defensive Player of the Week honor
  • Last Minnesota Defensive Player of the Week: Ashley Wittman (Sept. 30, 2013)

Setter of the Week
Micha Hancock, Penn State
S – Jr. – Edmond, Okla. – Edmond Memorial

  • Led No. 4 Penn State to victories over No. 11 Minnesota (3-2) and No. 19 Wisconsin (3-0)
  • Paced the Nittany Lion offense with 100 set assists, averaging 12.5 assists per set
  • Tallied four kills on a .333 hitting percentage against the Gophers
  • Added 12 digs and one block on the weekend  
  • Leads the nation in service aces per set (0.82)
  • Earned her 12th career Big Ten weekly award and eighth Setter of the Week accolade

  • Led Northwestern to five-set road wins over Indiana and No. 20 Purdue
  • Paced the Wildcat offense with 114 set assists, averaging 11.4 assists per set
  • Handed out a career-high 67 assists against the Boilermakers
  • Helped Northwestern post a .301 team hitting percentage against the Hoosiers
  • Guided four different Wildcats to double-digit kills against Purdue
  • Collected her third career Big Ten weekly award and second Freshman of the Week honor
