Oct. 16, 2006

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ashley Schatzle, Michigan State
Jr., OH, Monroe, Mich./Monroe

Schatzle averaged 6.5 kills per game and hit .423 on the week to help lead the Spartans to a pair of wins over Michigan and Iowa.  The MSU junior helped the Green and White to its first win against Michigan since the 2004 campaign, and first sweep over the Wolverines since the 1999 season.  She served eight-straight points in the third game versus Michigan to spark a Spartan comeback. Schatzle, along with teammate Katie Johnson, led MSU with 15 kills on 29 attempts (.345) in Saturday's contest against Iowa that gave Michigan State its 13th win of the season.  The victory already boosted MSU one win past its total from last year, while evening its 2006 conference record to 4-4.
