Illinois, Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin Earn Weekly Volleyball Honors
Nov. 1, 2010 Co-Player of the Week: Gibbemeyer wins her first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and the fourth in her career. The senior middle blocker registered 3.6 kills and 2.0 blocks per set in the Gophers' weekend wins over Iowa and No. 24 Northwestern, including a double-double against the Wildcats on Friday night. Gibbemeyer posted 14 kills and 10 blocks in Minnesota's four-set win over Northwestern after recording 11 kills and four blocks in a midweek tilt with Iowa. She finished the week with a .417 hitting percentage. Last Minnesota Player of the Week: Ashley Wittman (Sept. 13, 2010) Blair Brown, Penn State Brown averaged 5.6 kills and 2.0 digs per set in Penn State's weekend wins to claim her first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and the second in her career. She led the team in kills in wins over Indiana and Purdue, including a career-high 23 Saturday night against the Boilermakers. The senior finished with 16 spikes against Indiana before her career-night against Purdue, which also included 13 digs. Brown recorded 39 kills on the weekend and registered a .345 hitting percentage. Last Penn State Player of the Week: Megan Hodge (Nov. 30, 2009) Defensive Player of the Week: Bangert's 2.0 blocks-per-set average clinched Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time this season, and the fifth of her career. The senior middle blocker was a part of an Illini defense that held opponents to .154 hitting on the weekend, beginning with her 10-block performance in a five-set victory over No. 15 Michigan. She followed up with six stuffs in a sweep of Michigan State on Saturday night to eclipse the 600-block mark in her career.
Last Illinois Defensive Player of the Week: Hillary Haen (Aug. 30, 2010) Freshman of the Week: Mikaelsen wins her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after finishing the week with 2.6 kills on .319 hitting with 1.3 digs and 1.0 blocks per set as Wisconsin split a pair of weekend matches. Her best match of the weekend came against No. 15 Michigan, where she finished with 11 kills, six digs and a career-high five blocks.
