Nebraska Claims Outright Big Ten Volleyball Championship

With its 3-0 win over Iowa on Tuesday, Nebraska clinched its first Big Ten Volleyball Championship outright. The second-ranked Huskers earned their 17th conference win of the season en route to the university's first Big Ten title as a member of the conference. With the championship, Nebraska also earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
Nebraska held Iowa to less than 20 points in each set, opening the match with identical 25-14 set wins before taking a 25-19 win in the third set to seal the victory. Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 14 kills in the match, while Lauren Cook led the team defensively with 32 assists and 10 digs.
The final week of the 2011 regular season continues with five matches tomorrow, three on Friday and concludes with three on Saturday. The NCAA Championship selection show will air on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
