Penn State Earns Share of Big Ten Volleyball Championship

No. 2 Penn State clinched at least a share of its 10th Big Ten Championship in the last 11 years and 16th overall after a 3-1 win over No. 20 Illinois on Saturday. Coupled with their win against the Illini, the Nittany Lions earned a share of the title after No. 25 Purdue knocked off No. 6 Nebraska on Friday night. Penn State is 17-1 in Big Ten play and 26-2 overall with one week remaining in the regular season.

The Nittany Lions won the first two sets (25-20, 25-17) before falling in the third (23-25). Penn State bounced back in the fourth set, winning 25-16, to earn the victory. Deja McClendon and Ariel Scott led the Nittany Lions with 18 kills, while Megan Courtney notched 19 digs and Nia Grant added five blocks to lead the team.

The final matches of the 2013 regular season will be held next week, with the 2013 NCAA Championship field set to be announced on Sunday, Dec. 1. The 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship selection show is scheduled to air at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
