Second Round -- Saturday, Dec. 2

Penn State 3, Hofstra 0: The third-seeded Penn State women's volleyball team swept Hofstra (30-20, 30-12, 30-19) Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA Championship at Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions improve to 31-2 and advance to the NCAA Seattle Regional Semifinal against Big Ten-foe Purdue next Friday at Bank of America Arena in Seattle, Wash. The other Regional semifinal pairing will also feature a familiar squad, as Ohio State will square off against host and defending national champion Washington. Full Story

Wisconsin 3, Iowa State 0: The No. 10 Wisconsin volleyball team (26-6) can kiss the UW Field House good-bye, but not the 2006 season. With their 30-20, 30-25, 30-27 sweep over Iowa State (21-11) in the second round of the 2006 NCAA Championship, the Badgers advance to the round of 16 for the third year in a row.Full Story

Ohio State 3, Middle Tennessee 1: The 11th seeded Ohio State (25-7) women's volleyball team overcame a slow start to defeat Middle Tennessee (27-8), 3-1 (23-30, 30-19, 30-17, 30-22) Saturday night in the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky. OSU's Anna Szerszen scored 19.5 points for the Buckeyes with 16 kills, two solo blocks and three assist blocks. Blue Raider Ashley Adams had a match-high 23 points for Middle Tennessee with 20 kills, an ace serve and four assist blocks. Full Story

Ohio State 3, Belmont 0:
The 11th seeded Ohio State (24-7) women's volleyball team has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-16, 30-22) sweep of Belmont (24-7) Friday night at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky. Ohio State's Briana McCarthy and Danielle Meyer shared match-high honors with 14 points each for the Buckeyes. Full Story

Penn State 3, Long Island 0: The third-seeded Penn State women's volleyball team swept Long Island (30-16, 30-27, 30-15) Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Championship at Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions improve to 30-2 while the Blackbirds end their season at 25-11. Penn State advances and will take on Hofstra on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Rec Hall for the right to advance to the NCAA Regional Semifinal next weekend in Seattle, Wash., to face 14-seed Purdue. Michigan State 1, Utah 3: The Michigan State volleyball team (19-12) suffered a season-ending loss to Utah (28-3) on Friday night in the opening round of the 2006 Division I Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA. Utah won by scores of 30-25, 27-30, 20-30, 30-28 and 15-11. Full story

Wisconsin 3, Notre Dame 0: The No. 10 Wisconsin volleyball team (25-6) kept its post-season hopes alive Friday night with a three-game sweep over Notre Dame (18-14) at the UW Field House. The Badgers downed the Irish 36-34, 30-26, 30-21 and will face Iowa State Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at 7 p.m. Full story

Michigan 1, Cal Poly 3: In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, against the highest ranked first round opponent in program history, the University of Michigan volleyball team battled with a record crowd and a hot No. 14 Cal Poly squad in a tightly fought 3-1 loss (23-30, 30-26, 25-30, 23-30) at Mott Gym Friday (Dec. 1). Second Round -- Friday, Dec. 1
Purdue 3, Kentucky 0: It took a come-from-behind effort, but the No. 23 Boilermaker volleyball team advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 3-0 win over Kentucky Friday night. Purdue won the match 30-21, 30-28, 30-26 by utilizing a balanced offensive attack, stout defense and tough serving. Full Story

Minnesota 3, St. John's 2: The ninth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers (25-7) advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the sixth time in eight years as it defeated St. John's (31-5) in five games by scores of 30-26, 30-17, 26-30, 24-30, 15-12 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the University Gymnasium in Albany, N.Y. on Friday, Dec. 1. With the win, the Golden Gophers moved to 8-3 all-time in five-game NCAA Tournament matches. Full Story
