Twelve Big Ten cross country squads will open the 2008 season this weekend.  Seven men’s teams will compete and five women’s squads will take to the course to begin the fall campaign.

For the men on Friday, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State will all open their seasons at various invitationals throughout the country.  On Saturday, Minnesota will open its season at the St. Olaf Opener in Northfield, Minn.  The remaining three teams will begin in September.  Purdue will host an invitational to begin its season on Friday, Sept. 5.  Indiana and Wisconsin will both start the 2008 season on Saturday, Sept. 13.

On the women’s side, six teams are set for meets this weekend.  Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern and Penn State will all be on the course on Friday at different locations.  Ohio State and Purdue will begin the season on Friday, Sept. 5.  Minnesota will open on Sunday, Sept 6, while Indiana and Wisconsin will see their first action on Saturday, Sept. 13.
