Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week:
Alex Russeau, Michigan State
Jr. - La Salle, Mich. - Erie Mason
Michigan State’s Alex Russeau opened the 2009 campaign with an individual title at the Jeff Drenth Memorial hosted by Central Michigan University on Friday afternoon. The junior transfer from Siena Heights University finished ahead of the next runner by a full six seconds, completing the 5,000-meter course in a time of 15:34.8.

Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week:
Betsy Flood, Iowa
So. - Des Moines, IA - Dowling
Sophomore Betsy Flood helped the Hawkeye women’s cross country team kick of the 2009 season with a 15-50 win over Northern Iowa at the Hawkeye Invite last week. Flood led the 3,000-meter pack in with a collegiate-best finish of 10:25.25, good enough to rank third all-time in program history.

Junior Danielle Tauro headlined the Wolverines' effort at the season-opening Michigan Open on Friday, capturing the individual title for the third consecutive year. The Manahawkin, N.J., native clocked an impressive 18:00.5 in the 5,000-meter event, finishing a full 11 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Sophomore Caitlin Lane scored an individual win, leading the Nittany Lion women’s sweep over the top seven spots at the Dolan Duals hosted by Lock Haven University. Lane, who also won the Lock Haven meet as a freshman, finished the 4,000-meter course in 13:54.90 - nearly 50 seconds faster than her winning time in 2008. Lane led the race wire-to-wire, besting the field by over 15 seconds.
