Iowa and Penn State Runners Named Big Ten Harriers of the Week

Women’s Cross Country Co-Runners of the Week Racheal Marchand, Iowa At the Auburn Invitational, Marchand set a new personal best time in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 16:15.50. The Hawkeye senior placed fifth out of over 200 competitors despite not having raced since the first meet of the season on Aug. 29. Iowa finished third among 23 squads totaling 99 team points. The two-time All-American Marchand takes home her first career weekly honor. Last Iowa Runner of the Week: Diane Nukuri (10/16/07) Bridget Franek, Penn State Franek crossed the finish line fifth at the Bill Dellinger Invitational this past Saturday, covering the 6,000-meter course in 20:43.96. The Nittany Lions placed third overall with 107 points, upending No. 17 Colorado and No. 23 BYU. This was Franek’s first race of the season as she picks up her fourth career weekly accolade. Jesse Luciano, Iowa Luciano paced the Hawkeyes this past Saturday at the Auburn Invitational as the junior recorded a fourth-place finish. His time of 23:01.83 on the 8,000-meter course is a new personal best for the Villa Park, Ill., native by nearly an entire minute. As a team, Iowa took home third-place honors, racking up 72 total points. Luciano garners his first Big Ten Runner of the Week award. Last Iowa Runner of the Week: Eric MacTaggart (9/6/05)
