Big Ten Cross Country Opens 2017 Slate
The 2017 Big Ten cross country season gets underway this weekend.

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The 2017 Big Ten men's and women's cross country seasons are set to begin this weekend, with all 12 men's teams and each of the conference's 14 women's programs taking to the course.

Men's teams from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue and Rutgers will begin the campaign on Friday, with the Hawkeyes and Wolverines hosting events. Illinois will travel to the Eastern Illinois Walt Crawford Open; the Spartans will compete in the Jeff Drenth Memorial in Mt. Pleasant, Mich; Nebraska will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the Augustana Twilight; Penn State will compete in the Lock Haven Dolan Duals; the Boilermakers will race in the Crusader Open in Valparaiso, Ind., while Rutgers will travel to the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.

On Saturday, Sept. 2, Indiana will host the Indiana Open and be joined by Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

The women's squads from Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue and Rutgers will open the season on Friday. The Illini will compete in the Eastern Illinois Walt Crawford Open; Iowa will host the Hawkeye Invite; the Terrapins will travel to Emmitsburg, Md., for the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals; Michigan will host the Michigan Open; Michigan State will travel to the Jeff Drenth Memorial; Nebraska will compete in the Augustana Twilight; the Nittany Lions will begin their season at the Lock Haven Dolan Duals; Purdue will travel to the Crusader Open, and Rutgers will compete in the Lehigh Invitational.

Indiana will entertain Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin in the IU Open on Saturday in Bloomington, Ind., while Northwestern will make the short trek to Romeoville, Ill., to compete in the Flames/Flyer Opener.

All Big Ten men's and women's cross country programs will compete at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Sunday, Oct. 29, at Indiana's IU Championship Cross Country Course.
