Wisconsin - Swimming & Diving - 1984-1985 (RS-Transfer)

My favorite memories of being at the University of Wisconsin-Madison occurred while on the swim team in 1984. That year the men's and women's swim teams escaped the Wisconsin winter to train in Hawaii during winter break. This training resulted in being able to compete in two relays at the NCAAs after qualifying at an incredible Big Ten meet. I think I even managed to make the Dean's list in electrical engineering that year. Being a student-athlete was one of the most challenging and gratifying experiences of my life. Much of my success today is due to the fact swimming helped me through engineering school mentally, physically, socially and, to some extent, financially.

Even 20 years later, several UW-Madison alumni and coaches gather in Hawaii to swim in relays across the Maui Channel and 2.5 miles along Waikiki. I've lived in southern California since college and continue to swim and compete in triathlons and ocean and lifeguard competitions around the world. The student-athlete experience has certainly shaped my life. Thank you for celebrating and sharing the stories!
