I am so excited to share my most precious volleyball memory at Wisconsin. After winning the 1990 Big Ten title, the first for the school and my late coach, Steve Lowe, we were selected to play the University of Illinois at Wisconsin for the first round of the NCAA's. We knew that whole week the athletic department was tirelessly devoting their time to marketing the event throughout town. That morning in the training room there was talk about 6,000 tickets sold for that evening! Much to our surprise there was 6,000 fans there at the start of warm-ups and over 10,000 fans at the end of our three-game victory. I remember my teammate, Mary Penosky, serving the first ball, hand shaking with nervous energy and my coaches Steve Lowe, Stephanie Hawbecker, Margie Fitzpatrick and Andrea Nilsen jumping up and down with tears of joy as the last point was awarded to the Badgers.
I am so grateful that we were able to accomplish so many 'firsts' for UW Volleyball. I am forever blessed to have been coached by Steve Lowe and Margie Fitzpatrick, two people that gave so much to women's athletics at Wisconsin.
