Northwestern - Field Hockey - 1981-85

It was 1983 and our Northwestern team was competing against University of Connecticut in the NCAA Championship semifinals in Philadelphia. It was a night game, and for some unknown reason, half of the lights go out on the field before the game started. Assured the lights will be fixed soon, we started playing. We played the entire game in semi-darkness. One of our midfielders, Amy Kekeison had a collision with a UConn player and became totally disorientated. The lack of light didn't help! She had to ask me what the score was. We were down at that point, 1-0, and ended up losing by two. The next day we played the University of Massachusetts in the consolation game, and after two overtime periods, there was still no score. We went into penalty strokes. Amy, who was one of the strokers, sent the ball over the hockey goal's cross bar and into the corner of the soccer net located a few meters beyond it. We found out later that Amy had suffered a concussion the previous evening and confused the two goals the next day!
