Susan Gottlieb The whole swimming experience at Ohio State was great. We were such a close family. One of my best memories was my senior year when my sister joined me at OSU as a freshman. I was so proud! The 1991 Big Ten Conference Championship was my most memorable meet. We had 12 girls on the team and won almost every event that we were entered. I won the Big Ten Swimmer of the Year, and our coach, Jim Montrella, won Big Ten Coach of the Year. I won my 3 individual events, which I had not done before. I also got to cheer on my younger sister in her events - she swam her best times ever. It was a great feeling! We all worked hard together. Being a student-athlete was challenging at times, but very rewarding. I look back now and wonder how we did everything and still had some free time. I believe that has helped me in my career now to be disciplined and goal-driven, yet have time to spend with my family.
